Vortex Venom Enclosed [2024+] does not fit Docter footprint

Over last few months we had this situation happen more than few times, so I rather write it in blog post separately: New Vortex Venom (made after 2024) does no longer use the Docter footprint, which the old Vortex Venom used. 

Vortex stopped the production of older variant around 2023, so if you are buying Vortex Venom red dot as new, chances are almost 100% it is the new variant already. And the new Vortex Venom uses Leupold DPP footprint. 

Why is that important? Because it affects compatibility a lot. You will not be able to install the new Vortex Venom to any red dot mount nor red dot plate for Optics Ready pistols with Docter footprint.

*Yes I know, technically the new Vortex Venom is not just "Venom" but "Venom Enclosed". But who has time to read the second name of a red dot?

So, to sumarize: 
  • if your Vortex Venom was made before 2023, it is the old version with Docter foorptint,
  • if your Vortex Venom was made after 2024, it is the new version with Leupold DPP footprint. 

Luckily there is more than enough Optics Ready plates and red dot mounts compatible with the Leupold DPP footprint as well. It is just better if you choose the right one already the first time.
